# Freeware

**Freeware**, as defined in Webopedia, is "copyrighted software given away for free by the author. Although it is available for free, the author retains the copyright, which means that you cannot do anything with it that is not expressly allowed by the author. Usually, the author allows people to use the software, but not sell it."

You may feel that quality is determined by price, so how can freeware be any good? Popular examples of freeware are Google Chrome and Firefox web browsers, Windows Media Player, as well as the Adobe Flash Player. All are high quality products.

## Featured Software - Microsoft Mathematics 4.0

### Publisher's Description

Microsoft Mathematics provides a set of mathematical tools that help students get school work done quickly and easily. With Microsoft Mathematics, students can learn to solve equations step-by-step while gaining a better understanding of fundamental concepts in pre-algebra, algebra, trigonometry, physics, chemistry, and calculus.

Microsoft Mathematics includes a full-featured graphing calculator that's designed to work just like a handheld calculator. Additional math tools help you evaluate triangles, convert from one system of units to another, and solve systems of equations.

AnalyticMath is a free, cross-platform (Windows, Linux, etc.) mathematics / plotting program with a powerful editor and graphing module that will help you develop and visually analyse mathematical expressions quickly and easily.

Descartes is a Windows application for drawing graphs of mathematical functions. You do not choose from a limited set of offered functions - an expression evaluator can deal with an extremely wide range of expressions from simple polynomials, trigonometric, hyperbolic, exponential terms, differentials and integrals, and sums and products of series.

Equation Grapher is a free graphing calculator. Graph equations in Cartesian coordinate system. Ability to edit graphs interactively. You can move, zoom in and zoom out graphs. Ability to save, print, cut, copy, paste and delete graphs. GraphNow Software sells a line of commercial software products, however Equation Grapher is offered as freeware.

Gauss is a Windows application for drawing lines and surfaces in 3d space.

GeoGebra is free and multi-platform dynamic mathematics software for all levels of education that joins geometry, algebra, tables, graphing, statistics and calculus in one easy-to-use package. It has received several educational software awards in Europe and the USA.

Geometria provides a graphic interface for creating and solving problems in solid geometry. With Geometria, one can draw and measure segments and angles, measure areas and volumes, transform, cut and join figures. Figures can be turned around and rotated as easily as if having them in one's hands.

Graph Calculator 3D ? is an easy-to-use tool that plots 2D and 3D functions. Plots regular and parametric equations, coordinates and tables, Cartesian/Polar coordinates in 2D, Cartesian/Cylindrical/Spherical coordinates in 3D, inequalities in 2D and 3D. It has also an animation and variable slider in 2D and 3D. It is capable of importing coordinates from excel and csv files.

Graphics-Explorer plots and prints 2D graphics of several types of equations. Along a set of dots, the best fitting function is calculated. Formulas may contain constants a, b or c, which are changeable with a mouse click. Graphics will adjust instantly to new values of a, b, c creating a movie like effect while unveiling the role of the particular constant.

K3DSurf is a program to visualize and manipulate Mathematical models in three, four, five and six dimensions. K3DSurf supports Parametric equations and Isosurfaces.
